These air fryer stuffing balls are one of my all-time favorite roast dinner side dishes. Just give me a plateful and I'm happy! This method uses a packet mix, making it a useful short-cut when you're assembling a big roast dinner. You can even make them ahead of time, ready to heat up at the last minute!

Stuffing is one of those comforting must-have side dishes that completes the perfect roast lunch or festive feast. But instead of baking one big dish and scooping it out at the table, I’ve started making stuffing balls in the air fryer – they’re quick to make, easy to serve and of course, delicious to eat!

Why make stuffing into balls?
I used to make stuffing the “traditional” way - big dish, lots of waiting, slightly uneven bits of crispy topping. Then one Sunday, I tried making stuffing balls instead. Not only did it feel more fun (mixing and shaping them is strangely satisfying), but it also solved so many serving issues. Everyone just grabs a ball (or three), and dinner runs smoother.
Why the air fryer is ideal for cooking stuffing

The beauty of this recipe is its simplicity. You only need three things: a packet stuffing mix, butter, and water. That’s it. No long ingredient list, no faffing with herbs. It’s the ultimate “cheat” side dish - quick, easy, and always reliable.
The air fryer gives you that golden, crisp finish without needing to crowd the oven. Plus, because the heat circulates evenly, every ball gets that lovely crunchy exterior.
What you’ll need for air fryer stuffing balls:

• 1 packet stuffing mix (any brand works - just check if it’s vegetarian/vegan if needed)
• Butter (or dairy/free/vegan alternative)
• Water (see pack instructions for amount - I like to add 50ml extra to ensure the stuffing balls are moist inside).
How to make stuffing balls in the air fryer
The easiest ever method for stuffing balls.
- Mix it up
In a bowl, combine the stuffing mix with the butter and water. Tip: add about 50ml more water than the packet suggests - this keeps the inside extra moist. Add the butter (or dairy-free alternative) and let it melt into the mixture. Let the mixture stand for 5 minutes.

- Shape into balls
Take a tablespoon of the mixture at a time and roll into balls. If the mixture is too hot, let it cool for an extra minute before doing this. I like using an ice cream scooper so they’re all the same size. It makes them look neat and ensures they cook evenly.

- Air fry
Place the stuffing balls in a single layer in the basket. Cook at 350°F (180°C) for 10–12 minutes, until golden brown and crisp on the outside.

- Serve and enjoy
No carving spoonfuls out of a dish - just grab, bite, and enjoy.

What to serve with stuffing balls
Whether it’s Thanksgiving, Christmas, or just a Sunday roast, these air fryer stuffing balls are the perfect partner for turkey, pork, or chicken. And because the mix itself is vegetarian, they’re a side everyone can enjoy—even if they’re skipping the meat. I even love serving them alongside my air fryer salmon.
Top tips for easy air fry stuffing
• Even sizes = even cooking. Try to keep the balls consistent a consistent shape and size so none come out undercooked or overdone.
• No need for seasoning. The packet mix is already full of flavor - extra salt and pepper isn’t necessary.
• Go dairy-free. Use vegan butter (and double-check your mix) if you’re cooking for a dairy-free crowd.
Can you freeze stuffing?
Yes, you can freeze stuffing! And that's one of the great things about this method for air fryer stuffing balls. You can make them ahead and freeze them ready for when you need them. This makes them the perfect prep-ahead side dish for Thanksgiving or Christmas feasts. You have two options:
Option1: To freeze uncooked stuffing balls: You can freeze uncooked stuffing balls for up to 3 months. After shaping the balls, arrange them on a baking sheet in a single layer and pop the tray into the freezer. Once the balls are frozen, you can transfer them to a container or freezer bag.
When you're ready to cook the stuffing balls, cook them in the air fryer for around 20-25 minutes at 350°F (180°C) or until crisp and golden on the outside. Test before serving to make sure they are hot all the way through.
Option 2: To freeze cooked stuffing balls: You can also freeze cooked stuffing balls for up to 3 months. To do this, first let them cool completely, then arrange them on a baking sheet and flash freeze them until solid before transferring them to an airtight freezer bag or container. When you're ready to cook them, you can thaw them in the refrigerator overnight and then reheat them in the air fryer for 5 minutes at 350°F (180°C), or until hot all the way through.
Yes! Shape the balls and refrigerate (uncooked) for up to 24 hours. Then just air fry when needed.
Not usually - there’s enough butter in the mix to keep them from sticking. However, if you're worried about them sticking, you can mist the basket with a little oil before placing the stuffing balls inside.
Absolutely—but the packet mix shortcut is what makes this version so quick and stress-free.
